Strawberry Traffic Jambourine Tambourine

The Strawberry Traffic Jam Band uses lots of instruments. Some of our favorite instruments are percussions instruments, which make noise when you hit them or bang them together. Here's how to make your Strawberry Traffic Jambourine Tambourine!

MATERIALS

  • Two plastic party plates (approximately 9 inches)
  • Colored felt-tip pens
  • Heavy colored string
  • Six large buttons
  • Pencil
  • Colored construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Stapler

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Ask a grown-up to help punch a small hole in the center of each plate with the pencil.

2. Cut out interesting shapes from the colored construction paper. Glue these shapes to the bottom of each plate to decorate your Tambourine. Decorate around the holes. You also can draw designs on the construction paper with the felt-tipped pens.

3. Cut off 24 inches of string and pass it through the holes with the plates facing each other. Make sure that the decorated sides of the plates are facing outward.

4. Join the plates together by stapling around the edges.

5. Pull the string so that there are approximately 12 inches of string on each side.

6. On each side, pass the string through a button, so that the button is approximately 1 inch from the plate. Tie a knot so that the button cannot slide down the string.

7. Pass the string through the second button on each side, keeping the button approximately 1 inch from the first button and tie another knot. Follow these same instructions for the third buttons on each side.

8. When the buttons are secure, cut the excess string on each side.

9. Adjust the buttons so that they are even on each side and then put glue in the holes in the plate to secure the string.

10. Bang and shake your Strawberry Traffic Jambourine Tambourine in beat with your favorite music!
